Accessibility Statement
EFFECTIVE DATE: OCTOBER 2020
Notice of Accessibility.
At Burton, we believe everyone should have access to the sideways lifestyle via Burton.com. Website accessibility is an ongoing initiative here at Burton and we are actively working to further improve the accessibility of Burton.com.
Michiganrockhounds. com strives to ensure that its services and products are accessible for people with disabilities. We want as many people as possible to be able to use our website, and we are continually improving the user experience of this website for everyone by conforming to relevant accessibility standards. We carry the strong belief that every person has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort, and independence.
Accessibility Approach.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are a set of standards created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The W3C is an international community that develops regulations and recommendations for the internet to help ensure its longevity and usability. The W3C established the WCAG standards to provide detailed guidelines for website owners, designers, and developers to create websites and digital content and markup through accessible approaches that work seamlessly with assistive technologies used by people with disabilities.
Disclaimer.
Michigan Rockhounds continues its efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of our site, products, and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible, and unhindered use also for those of us with disabilities.
Despite our efforts to make all pages and content on michiganrockhounds.com fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution.
Compatibility.
This website is designed to be used with JavaScript, which is necessary for achieving conformance with the accessibility standards used. This website may not be readily compatible with browsers older than 3 major versions or mobile operating systems older than 5 years.
Compliance.
What compliance means to Michigan Rockhounds: intent, recognizing four basic principles:
Perceivable
We understand that we perceive things in the world via our senses. For users, the available senses in most spaces online or in tech are currently seeing and hearing, with touch at hand as well where haptics are included. New technologies may allow us to interface via touch, smell, or taste. Those would also be included in “perceivables”.
Operable
We understand that website users operate controls, navigation, buttons, and other interactive elements in order to control an interface. When users can interact with an interface in this way, it is known as operability. Many users may identify elements visually and subsequently swipe or click. Other users will utilize voice commands or a keyboard.
Understandable
We understand that consistency of format and presentation, and predictability of design and use patterns, are part of what makes technology reliable and easy to navigate. Multimodal and concise content that is tone and voice appropriate is also more understandable. When content is comprehensible to users, they’ll find the interface more available to them. They’ll learn to use it, and remember it without a great deal of trouble.
Robust
We understand that our website is designed to function on all relevant technologies, and complies with necessary standards. Website users can choose how they interact with our material online.
User Privacy.
People with disabilities should never be required to submit private information about their diagnoses or be forced to label themselves as even having one. Additionally, some types of personal information should never be used for marketing purposes without explicit consent, and disabilities are at the top of that list.
Third-Party Sites.
This website links to third-party content created and maintained by other people and organizations. Third parties including, but not limited to, Google Maps, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter are not covered by this statement as we do not manage accessibility in those places. This includes any embedded item, iFrames, or API’s used within our website. Accessibility policies or terms of use for common third parties can be found by doing a Google search or contacting those parties directly. External links, embedded third-party content, and other components beyond our control may or may not meet WCAG standards for accessibility.
Evaluation Methodology.
The accessibility of this website is frequently evaluated by our team so that we may meet the accessibility standards of WCAG 2.1 AA.
